CCTV CAMERAS INSTALLED ON GUNTUR INTERCITY EXPRESS:

Considering the safety and security of the public the Southern Railways had installed CCTV cameras in the coaches of Guntur Intercity Express.  Mr. D.P. Pande who is the General Manager of Southern Railways said  that  432 CCTV cameras were installed for surveillance at 32 stations in the zone and he said this system is to experiment and to get the feedback based on the same further initiatives will be taken from his end. Added to that he said “We wanted to leverage the advantage of using surveillance cameras and have them on trains so it could help us keep an eye on our own staff too, especially housekeeping personnel deployed on 35 express trains where journey time was over 16 hours”.
As of now two cameras on either side of the corridors of the coaches were installed. And he told these were part of the Integrated Security System (ISS)  at a cost of 6.1 crore .  IP cameras cameras were installed in Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Guntur, Nanded and Guntakal, while similar works at other stations were in an advanced stage of completion. Added to this the ISS included under-vehicle scanners, x-ray baggage scanners and bomb detection and disposal systems.Mr.Pande said they havesss plans to install CCTV cameras around the passenger reservation systems along with that installation will also include station platforms that were considered areas with a large presence of people . He declared  that “Safety and security are our focus, apart from improving service on board,” , at a press confrence after releasing the Southern Zone Time Table and MMTS Pocket Time Table for 2013 on Saturday.
