In order to monitor the activities of animals housed in different enclosures and also the movement of visitors to curb incidents of eve-teasing Government of Lucknow has decided to install the IP based CCTV cameras in the Kanpur Zoo. A sum of RS.60 lakh has been allotted by the government for the installation process. As of now 4 cameras have been installed added to this 78 high definition CCTV cameras will be installed to cover all the enclosures. The Zoo administration has taken the opinion from concerned experts and finally decided to go for IP cameras because they have several advantages over CCTV cameras. Since they come with huge storage capacity even the night time happenings can very well be captured and recorded.
MR.K Thomas Director of the Kanpur zoo said that two CCTV DOME and FIXED cameras will be installed in the zoo. The dome type camera will capture pictures and videos at 360 degrees. The images captured by fixed cameras can be zoomed out and zoomed in. All of them will be IR (Infra Red cameras), wherein images can be stored for 30 days . It is for the first time that the Kanpur zoo and its activities has come under the scanner of the CCTV cameras. These cameras have been installed at entry and exit points in zoo near ticket window, outside office of director, both inside and outside ticket booking counters. The cameras will also be installed at kitchen and store. With the installation of four such cameras, the trials have been successfully done.Because of this technologically advanced cameras the zoo authorities can learn more about the behaviour of the wild animals domesticated in the zoo.
In kitchen, these CCTV cameras will help to check whether the staff members are following guidelines or not while dealing with the feed of the wild animals. It would also help the zoo authorities to moniter the activities of the staff working at the ticket booking counters. The entry and the exit of the vehicles could also be seenThese cameras will be helpful and bring a change in the way security is maintained at Kanpur zoo
