Install CCTV cameras on National Highways: Bombay High Court

In order to avoid accidents due to over-speeding of vehicles in the National Highways Maharashtra Government has been informed by the Bombay High court to install the CCTV cameras across the state. This suggestion came from Justice Ajay Khanwilkar on a PIL praying for a direction to the state to ensure medical help to the victims within one hour of sustaining injuries in accidents on the Highways.
The court also suggested to provide
CCTV cameras on the lamp posts when hiring road contractors for repairs on the highways. This would ensure that CCTVs would be in place on the Highways and they should be connected with the control room so that the vehicular movement could be constantly monitored to prevent accidents
The PIL contended that most of the accidents take place on highways due to over-speeding and overloading of vehicles. Also, speeding vehicles change lanes frequently thereby inviting accidents. Hope installing  the CCTV cameras will definitely solve the purpose of preventing accidents and also to make the public  to follow the road rules and regulations  through the cameras being installed.
