Honeywell Security & Fire Honeywell's Performance Series Multi-Format Hybrid Recorders and HQA Cameras

Honeywell announces an array of Performance Series Multi-Format Hybrid Recorders and Performance Series Multi-Format HQA (high quality analog) cameras. Through an expansion of the current product line, these new multi-format products offer a flexible upgrade and expansion path for SMB video security installations, such as retail, restaurants and small commercial offices. These updates to the Performance Series portfolio can be used to help lower installation costs and provide customers with an opportunity to upgrade to a state-of-the-art system without having to re-design and install a completely new system. By using existing cables, cameras and other hardware, installation time can be decreased as well, simultaneously providing a path for future upgrades and becoming a “go-to” solution for retrofits. On top of being compatible with the current analog video standards (HD-CVI, HD-TVI, AHD and CVBS), the new recorders are also compatible with current IP video standards, offering both analog and IP inputs. Similarly, the Multi-Format HQA cameras function with the same analog video standards, enabling them to work with a multitude of existing recorders. In the SMB market where the combination of functionality and price are crucial, this increased compatibility allows businesses to mix-and-match solutions and gives them the flexibility to combine products that truly suit their security needs.

Panasonic's new security camera doesn't care if you have Wi-Fi

Home security cameras such as Dropcam let you discreetly monitor your home and surroundings from virtually any device. But they generally require a strong Wi-Fi signal or hardwired ethernet to function, which isn't always available in the locations that you might want to mount the camera. Panasonic's new Nubo camera addresses that problem head on: it's the first home security camera with built-in LTE networking, so it can be mounted virtually anywhere you have a cell signal. The Nubo supports 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless connections, is IP-66 weather resistant for outdoor mounting, can be run off of a USB battery, and has a magnetic mounting system, making it easy to move from place to place if need be. It can shoot 1080p video with its 140-degree wide-angle lens, and has both a speaker and microphone for two-way communication through the camera. The camera also has an infrared detector and LED array for low-light recording. The Nubo's included SIM will work with Panasonic's own MVNO network in Europe (running on Vodafone), with service plans starting at $7-$10 per month. The service plans included cellular connectivity and cloud storage for the footage Nubo captures. It also has built-in Wi-Fi and microSD storage support as fallbacks and can be used without a service plan.NUBO'S SERVICE PLANS INCLUDE CLOUD STORAGE SERVICEPanasonic's Nubo app will work with Android and iOS and lets you watch live video, manage the lengths of clips the Nubo records, and see when the Nubo camera has detected activity. The camera is able to detect people and start recording clips of varying lengths when it does. Those clips are then uploaded to the cloud and accessible from anywhere. It limits resolution to 720p and frame rate to 10 frames per second when connected to LTE so as not to quickly exhaust a limited data plan. Max resolution when connected to Wi-Fi and storing on an SD card is 1080p at 30 frames per second.Panasonic says the camera should appeal to both consumers and small business operators. It can be mounted to a food truck, for instance, or a garage that's far from your home Wi-Fi router. Or perhaps you could put it on your RV while camping to make sure your belongings are safe while you go hiking. Most people will probably just mounted it to their main entryway, however, where it will likely be able to access Wi-Fi signals in addition to LTE.The Nubo will initially launch in the UK and Netherlands this November, with preorders starting in April.

Panasonic launches new standard in rugged CCTV

Panasonic has announced the availability of its new robust PTZ security camera, designed for the most severe weather conditions and mission critical applications.Available from October 2016, the Aero-PTZ (WV-SUD638) provides Full HD 60fps imagery with a 30x optical zoom lens within a tough fibreglass body resistant to both erosion and salt corrosion and suitable for everything from arctic to desert weather conditions. The camera features hybrid image stabilisation technology and gyro-sensors to minimise the effect of external vibrations on imagery. In addition, the super dynamic function ensures a wider dynamic range compared to conventional cameras.Designed for applications at height, at sea and on ports, piers and bridges, the camera’s active sense technology responds to external conditions, initiating a built-in wiper, heater and defroster to continually capture the highest quality imagery in the most harsh of conditions.Gerard Figols, Product Marketing Manager for Panasonic Security Solutions, said:“The Aero PTZ is the most rugged security camera on the market and is capable of withstanding more extreme conditions than ever before. It will reliably produce sharp, crisp images, whatever the weather.“The hybrid image stabilisation feature is unique to Panasonic and means that, even when the camera is being moved significantly by the wind, the image produced remains of evidential quality.”

Panasonic prepares to offload main security camera plant

Panasonic looks to close first-round bidding in early April for the sale of a Chinese security camera factory as the company moves to cut costs in a business that has struggled to gain a foothold outside Japan. The Japanese manufacturer contacted investment funds and other potential buyers for the core production center in the Chinese city of Suzhou. Likely candidates include U.S. equity fund Carlyle Group and British funds Permira and CVC Capital Partners. Panasonic anticipates gaining somewhere over 50 billion yen ($471 million) from the sale, and may end discussions if it does not receive an agreeable bid.Proceeds could be applied to acquisitions in the corporate systems field or committed to other key segments like automotive batteries. Panasonic will decide later whether to put its security camera factory in Japan's Saga Prefecture on the chopping block as wellJapanese demand for security cameras connected to the internet totaled roughly 54 billion yen in fiscal 2017, data from a research firm shows. Though Panasonic appears to control the top domestic share at roughly 40%, the company's global share wallows at a few percentage points as Chinese rivals dominate internationally.Panasonic currently bundles the cameras with the security system it sells. To shave costs, the company later will procure those cameras from other sources, which may include the buyer of the Suzhou factory. The sale also would eliminate expenses associated with capital expenditures. The group's security camera operation is housed in the internal company dedicated to corporate systems. Panasonic plans to raise that company's operating margin from 8.5% this fiscal year to over 10%, doing so by shifting from hardware to software such as facial recognition programs.

“The surveillance industry originally relied on analogue technology which operated on private networks. In those days, the industry focused on product cost, performance, and ease of use. As the industry has transformed from analogue and isolated to digital and networked, we have seen the benefits that the digital and networking revolution brings to the surveillance industry. However, we have also witnessed the spread of various types of malicious cybersecurity attacks from the Internet to the surveillance industry,” said Bin Wang, Chief Officer at Hikvision Network and Information Security Laboratory and Network Security Department. The Hikvision cybersecurity white paper outlines current security threats for the Internet of Things, and for network and information security in the surveillance industry. It explores the product security lifecycle and product security research to protect user data in comprehensive ways, and safeguard assets from common cyber threats.

Samsung is releasing a new outdoor surveillance cam

Samsung is likely releasing a new outdoor camera soon, judging from a Best Buy page that lists the device. The retail store says a “SmartCam Indoor/Outdoor 1080p Wi-Fi Network Surveillance Camera” is “coming soon.” We’ve reached out to Samsung for confirmation on when it might be released and will update when we hear back .This new camera’s features, at least from what I can tell, are the same as the company’s more expensive, already released outdoor cam. Both versions support night vision and motion detection. They also record Full HD-quality video and connect over Wi-Fi. The key difference between the two appears to be design. The original camera looks like a classic surveillance device with a left to right swivel head. The new camera looks more like a Nest Cam, particularly with its adjustable base

CCTV Video Surveillance Systems Market 2014-2024

Surveillance technologies now consistently feature as an essential component of every national government's effort to deter criminal activity and investigate those offences that do occur, in addition to playing an important role in the development of an effective homeland security posture. Additionally, they also provide private consumers with an effective, and relatively inexpensive, means of ensuring operational efficiency and reducing shrinkage. Accordingly, CCTV products can now be found in a wide range of market verticals, from retail and gaming through to airports, ports, prisons, and governmental. Funding to secure the latter has always guaranteed a certain level of expenditure on CCTV products, especially in security conscious countries such as the United StatesIsrael, and China, yet with the tentative recovery of the global economy a resurgent private sector is anticipated to enable spending to reach $23.3bn in 2014. Indeed, with consumer consumption picking up in previously depressed markets, and with huge investments being made in infrastructure around the world, the demand for CCTV products is only set to increase as products continue to offer more and more capabilities, and prices continue to tumble.

BMTC to install CCTV cameras to crack down on illegal private operators

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation will install CCTV cameras at various locations in the city so that it can crack down on illegal services of maxi cabs, vans and private buses. Officials say the corporation loses as much as ₹ 109 crore annually to private players. They are hopeful that the cameras will provide them evidence which can be presented to regional transport authorities who can then initiate action against owners of the private transporters.
Hitherto, officials recorded footage on mobile phones when they accompanied RTO officials on their rounds. They hope once the cameras are installed there will be a more systematic approach to clamping down on private operators.
“Illegal operations by private parties is rampant in many parts of the city. There is a need to document illegal operations on daily basis and CCTV cameras are required. The transport department has been acting against these errant operators by carrying out drives but existing laws are not stringent enough to stop these operations,” said Managing director of the BMTC V. Ponnuraj.
He said regional transport authorities can initiate action only by suspending their permits. “As most of these vehicles are registered outside the city limits we have to pursue the matter with several regional transport authority.”
According to BMTC officials, private operators continue to do their business even after being penalised by the authorities or the court. “With the help of CCTV cameras, we will build a strong case on vehicles involved, points they pick up passengers and routes they operate before taking up the matter with authorities concerned,” Mr. Ponnuraj said.
The BMTC will install and manage the CCTV cameras. “From April onwards, all private transport vehicles will have to install GPS. We are hoping it will help us to track their operations,” he added.
The BMTC is ready to take on bigger private operators who provide services to companies in Electronics City. While it’s perfectly legal for a company to hire a private player for its employees, the problem arises when drivers pick up passengers on their way back.To crack down on this, CCTV cameras will be installed at various locations such as Electronics City, Silk Board, Hebbal, Kalasipalyam, Sumanahsali to name a few.

Bengaluru: Soon, CCTV at all major junctions

In a effort to improve public safety and security in the city, Bruhat  Bengaluru  Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is all set to install more than 400 high definition  CCTV  cameras at major junctions.

The BBMP, which will be responsible for the maintenance of the CCTV cameras, will be spending Rs 30 crore on the project. The Palike is currently holding discussions with the police to finalise the camera specifications.

“Currently, we are holding discussions with the traffic police on the specifications of the cameras. The cameras will be installed along B-TRAC roads. The cameras will be able to capture still images and moving images and will have zoom function. In another week, the complete specifications will be finalised and, once that is done, we will call for the tender. We plan to install more than 400 cameras along B-TRAC roads and major junctions in the city,” a source from BBMP said.

BBMP is also looking at the option of getting wireless cameras. “We are also holding discussions to decide if we can make these cameras wireless,” the source added.

The total cost for the project is pegged at Rs 30 crore and the BBMP has a fund of Rs 10 lakh for each ward.

Recently, BBMP had proposed to install about 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras along 14,000 km of city roads as part of its  Safe City  project. The aim of the project was to make the city safer by installing a CCTV camera for every 100-meter stretch of city roads.

Bengaluru Gets 18 Indira Canteens On Wheels, Equipped With CCTV Cameras

BENGALURU:  Eighteen brand new mobile Indira Canteens offered healthy and subsidised food in several areas of Bengaluru where it wasn't possible to have brick and mortar outlets. Six more canteens will be added to the fleet by the end of February. The mobile canteens also have CCTV cameras. The project aims at making Karnataka "hunger-free", said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah while launching the vans on Republic Day.

The first Indira Canteen was launched in August last year. The new mobile canteens will be operational near hospitals, bus stands and railway stations. Indira Canteens, which are being operated by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagra Palike (BBMP), provide breakfast at Rs. 5 and lunch and dinner for Rs. 10 each. The government spends Rs. 32 per person per day, which takes their annual expenditure to Rs. 115 crores for providing the subsidised food to around 3 lakh citizens.

"The Indira Canteens on wheels are cost effective...it costs around Rs. 14 lakh each whereas we have to shell out Rs. 28 lakh for the construction of a fixed structure for the subsidised canteen," N Manjunath Prasad, the commissioner of the Bengaluru civic body, said.

Earlier, there were canteens operational at 170 of the 198 BBMP wards in the city. The mobile vans are part of the government's efforts to ensure that all 198 centres have operational canteens by February.

The government has also turned to the government's department for ex-servicemen, the Sainik Welfare Board, to help monitor the canteens and ensure security and hygiene. Each canteen is slated to have two former army personnel looking after them. The need for security was highlighted when, in October last year, three men tried to create a ruckus by claiming they found a cockroach in their food. CCTV footage revealed the men themselves had dropped the cockroach in the food.
COMMENTS
"We have outsourced the security and the supervision of Indira Canteens and Kitchens as well in order to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of hygiene and quality" Mr Prasad said.

The initiative by the state government is being seen as an attempt to woo voters in Karnataka which goes to the polls later this year.
